The enhanced bus facility marks a major investment in the future of the town and the wider public transport network.

The bus interchange has been comprehensively remodelled to include four principal bus stops, enabling passengers to board and alight safely via high-access kerbs.

New bus shelters have been installed, incorporating electronic real-time and timetable information displays. Additional enhancements include cycle parking facilities, new seating, and improved landscaping within the bus station area. There is also enhanced CCTV provision at the bus station.

Furthermore, the bus manoeuvring area has been significantly upgraded, with a separate layover facility now provided.

Access from Bannatyne Street has also been revised to enhance pedestrian safety, including the introduction of a central refuge island to improve crossing movements. Minor road marking and footway works are scheduled to be completed later this month. 

Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, said: “This is a powerful example of partnership in action, bringing together key transport providers from both the bus and rail industries alongside the council and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.

“This new facility stands as a lasting investment in Lanark and its surrounding communities, set to enhance connectivity and serve residents for many years to come.” 

The project follows on from a series of other programmes of work including a new park and ride with 64 car parking spaces including two electric vehicle charging bays, constructed at Ladyacre Road (former Alstons Yard).

In addition, eight disabled parking spaces have also been created on Bannatyne Street at the rail/bus station.
